Adding and Subtracting Polynomials

You should be able to classify polynomials … monomials (one term), binomials (two terms), trinomials (three terms); determine the degree of the term and of the polynomial; write the polynomial in descending order; and distinguish the terms of the polynomial.

1.  To add polynomials, remove the parentheses and add like terms listing the terms in descending order.                                                                                                    
                          
 

2.  To subtract polynomials, change the signs of all of the terms in the polynomial that follows the subtraction sign and then add/subtract like terms listing the terms in descending order.
