Completing the Square

An alternate method of solving quadratic equations is called completing the square.  Actually completing the square involves using the (2) square root property.  However, we have a few steps to setting up the problem before we can use completing the square.

        … first isolate both terms containing the variable onto one side of the equation
                            … next take of the middle term
                                                           now square this number and add to both sides

                                   … the right-hand side will factor into the square of a binomial

                          … now use the (2) square root property and solve
