Completing the Square

An alternate method of solving quadratic equations is called completing the square.  Actually completing the square involves using the (2) square root property.  However, we have a few steps to setting up the problem before we can use completing the square.

first isolate both terms containing the variable onto one side of the equation
next take of the middle term
now square this number and add to both sides

the right-hand side will factor into the square of a binomial

now use the (2) square root property and solve
